Amazing BBC documentary about the musical genius Ludwig Van Beethoven! A powerful, moving and accurate documentary based on the life of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Paul Rhys's masterful portrayal of Beethoven is particularly noteworthy, doing well to vividly convey the isolation and despair Beethoven experienced throughout his life, while insightful narration from the popular conductor, composer and presenter Charles Hazlewood does well to add a sophisticated educational dimension to the series.

And he composed a lot of music including the "Destiny Symphony" and the "Passion Piano Sonata," which described his love for a woman. He couldn't recognize Schubert, a young musician, who visited him, because his health got worse. Beethoven died at the age of 54 on March 24, 1826. The songs of this great musician who overcame a lot of adversity and composed a lot of beautiful music are still with us.

Faces of Classical Music http://facesofclassicalmusic.blogspot.gr/ • (HD 1080p) It is 9 June 1804. At the palace of Prince Lobkowitz, Beethoven is conducting the first performance of his Third Symphony, the Eroica. And through this film we attend the performance. Through the exchanges between the characters represented, their words but also their expressions, we are reminded of the complete novelty of this symphony: its length, its unusual accents, its intense emotion and, of course, the disrupted musical rules. During the interval, Beethoven takes the advantage to speak privately with Josephine von Deym. The romantic life of the master is then presented. Haydn has the last word. When speaking of the music, he concludes: "From today, everything is different". The camera moves through the orchestra, lingering on a detail, that we may participate in the music together with the musicians. The film is remarkably well made. Eroica was directed by Simon Cellan Jones, and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique is lead by John Elliot Gardiner. Ludwig van Beethoven is performed with spirit by Ian Hart. He rejoices, he becomes sad, he catches fire, casting looks - severe or rougish - and his anger all show a very endearing and appealing Beethoven. Leo Bill plays a Ferdinand Ries ill treated by his master. The women are played by Fenella Woolgar, as Princes Lobkowitz, Clair Skinner is Countess Brunswick and Lucy Ackhurst is Josephine von Deym. Jack Davenport is prince Lobkowitz and Frank Finlay is Joseph Haydn. Eroica was broadcast for the first time on Saturday 4th October at 21:15 on BBC2. • Faces of Classical Music http://facesofclassicalmusic.blogspot.gr/

A short biography on Ludwig van Beethoven. Written and narrated by Patricia Daniel. Beethoven's bio Ludwig van Beethoven is a pianist and songwriter who quickly became a predominant musical figure in the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic era. "Neighbors provided accounts of the small boy weeping while he played the clavier standing atop a footstool to reach the keys, his father beating him for each hesitation or mistake." (biography.com) Beethoven's father wanted Beethoven become a prodigy. Beethoven was an average student, who struggled with math and spelling. At the age of 7 Beethoven played his first recital. In 1781, at the age of 10, Beethoven withdrew from school to study music full time. Beethoven studied with Christian Gottlob Neefe, who was an appointed court organist. Christian introduced Beethoven to Mozart. At the age of 12 , Beethoven published his first composition named Dressler. By 1784, Beethoven's father was no longer able to support his family. Beethoven was hired as a court organist and received a modest annual salary to help support his family. In 1787, the court decided to send Beethoven to Vienna to study with Mozart. Beethoven quickly left Vienna due to his mother falling ill. She died several months later, sending Beethoven into depression. Beethoven continued to work on his reputation as the young court musician. In 1792, Beethoven left for Vienna. Mozart had already passed away, but Beethoven intended to study with Joseph Hayden. In Vienna, Beethoven dedicated himself whole-heartedly to his studies. He studied the piano with Hayden, vocal composition with Antonio Salieri, and counterpoint with Johann Albrechtsberger. Beethoven acquired many patrons during his time in Vienna. Those patrons provided him with lodging and the funds necessary to continue his work. Beethoven made his first public debut on March 29th 1795. Beethoven then published a series of three piano trios which were an enormous critical and financial success. As new century progressed, Beethoven composed many pieces. In 1801, Beethoven's 6 string quartet was published to demonstrate forms that have been developed by Mozart and Haydn. Beethoven also composed the 'creatures of Prometheus' in 1801. While trying to compose these great works, Beethoven was struggling with deafness. Beethoven battled between the despair and his love of music. He felt that is was a handicap to his profession, but he believed that his art would be his salvation so he threw himself into his work. And despite his deafness, Beethoven continued to compose. From 1803 to 1812, he composed his only opera, Fidelio, 6 symphonies, four solo concerts, 5 string quartets, six strings sonatas, 7 piano sonatas, 5 sets a piano variations, four overtures, and 72 songs. The most famous during this time, was the moonlight sonata and the Opera Fidelio, his only the Opera. Beethoven never married, and never had any children. He led a lonely, miserable life through his adulthood. He was known for being short tempered, absent minded, and greedy. Beethoven often fought with his brothers, his publishers, his pupils, and patron. The death of Beethoven's brother, Caspar, in 1815, proved to be one of the greatest trials in Beethoven's life. There, it began a long, drawn-out, legal battle with his sister-in-law over the custody of his nephew, Karl van Beethoven. The struggles stretched for over 7 years. In the end, Beethoven won the custody of his nephew. Beethoven's 9th, and final Symphony, was completed in 1824. It remains the composer's greatest achievement. The symphonies final course, with four vocal soloists and a chorus singing the words from the poem "ode to joy", is possibly the most famous piece of music in history. His music is known for the techniques of sound that displays his emotions. His music could tell us how he felt at a specific time in his life. Beethoven died on March 26th 1827. He died at the age of 56, with an autopsy revealing that cirrhosis of the liver was the cause of death. Beethoven felt that his music was for more than just entertainment. He felt that his works had a moral and humanistic value to them. Beethoven wanted his works to be enjoyed, as well as to help humanity to emerge and grow toward the light. The idea that Beethoven composed all of these great pieces of music and extraordinary works while he was deaf is truly one of the most amazing achievements known. References Ludwig van Beethoven.
